Stark County Auditor Kay Ann Haag has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Haag was pulled over for a traffic stop in Dickinson late last week and booked into the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center.
Haag previously plead guilty to driving under the influence in July of 1997, when she was the county’s deputy auditor. She received a suspended sentence of 10 days in jail and fined $675.
Stark County Commission chairman said he was unaware of any substance abuse problems that would have interfered with her performance in the auditor’s office. The North Dakota Century Code allows for only the governor to remove an elected official for misconduct, malfeasance, criminal activity, substance abuse or gross incompetence.
