The body of Lynn Fairfield, 74, missing near Mandan, ND since April 9th was found Wednesday morning. A deputy from the Morton County Sheriff’s Office was checking the riverbanks about a mile downstream from where Fairfield’s boat capsized and found the man’s body near the shoreline.
For almost a month, authorities employed drones, underwater equipment, a dive team and bloodhounds in their search for Fairfield, but large chunks of ice covering the river’s surface made their search extremely difficult.
Fairfield had been scouting hunting spots along the Heart River in heavy ice jams when officials believe he fell into the river as he was trying to exit his boat. His wife contacted the authorities when he failed to return her phone calls the night of April 9th.
