WHAT YEAR DID YOU START?

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE IN RADIO?
Odds were, I was probably going to end up in a padded room anyway. Might as well get paid for it.

INTERESTING TIDBITS ABOUT YOUR LIFE BEFORE KFLN/The Rock?
I had always worked in customer service and/or sales. I had grown disenchanted with those fields and decided to try my hand at construction. The last construction project I worked on was a desk for Newell Broadcasting.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT WORKING HERE?
No day is ever the same. Some of the relationships I have developed through clients make my feel right at home in Baker.

VAUGHN ZENKO

ANNOUNCER

WHAT YEAR DID YOU START?
Start what? Filling out silly questionaires? 2015.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE IN RADIO?
I didn’t have much choice. As a baby, my Parents left me on the door step to the radio station, with a little microphone and a weather forecast pinned to my diaper. Luckily, I was found by a kind-hearted Program Manager with no knowledge of child labor laws, and the rest is history. Later, I landed my job at Newell Broadcasting by winning a hot dog eating contest in a supermarket parking lot. Which, as many of you know, is how rock & roll radio stations traditionally fill their on-air positions.

INTERESTING TIDBITS ABOUT YOUR LIFE BEFORE KFLN/The Rock?
My pre-KFLN life was mostly spent goofing off, partying, listening to music, and avoiding any semblance of real work or responsibility. So pretty much the same thing I do now. Except now I get paid for it. Yay!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT WORKING HERE?
Well, I hate to gush hyperbolic about how great my boss is… but it’s kind of station policy. So let me just say that Russ is the most amazing man on the planet. Is that good? Will you release my family NOW?! Please take off these shackles. I’ve done everything you asked!! PLEASE?!?!!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO TELL US?
No. Is this some sort of scam? Why all the third degree? How about I ask you a few questions, buddy? Actually, your mother’s maiden name and last four digits of your social security number would be fine. I’ve literally won NINE more Marconi Awards than Sean Hannity. That’s a true fact. It’s about time I start getting some of that phat Hannity money! This Super Accurate Bonus Weather Forecast calls for a 100% chance of me making it rain up in here!

ANNOUNCER - WEB & GRAPHIC DESIGNER

WHAT YEAR DID YOU START?
August 2015

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE IN RADIO?
I never knew that I wanted to be in it until I started doing it! I’ve worked in the entertainment industry for the past 14 years, so this seemed like the logical place to be here in Baker. In my high school days I was looking for a job like any other teenager.. Never in a million years did I think I’d work in Radio, however good ol’ mom stepped in with a job listing at a local station operating the radio board for the local football games. 4.5 years later, here I am in Baker.

INTERESTING TIDBITS ABOUT YOUR LIFE BEFORE KFLN/The Rock?
I experimented with a few different occupations before KFLN/The Rock. Night Club DJ, Gas Station Attendant, Sandwich Artist, Rockstar, Internet Celebrity… But ultimately Radio is where I belong.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT WORKING HERE?
The atmosphere at Newell Broadcasting. Everyday is a new, exciting experience… mixed with sugar.. spice… and everything nice. Just watch out for the chemical X.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO TELL US?
Watch out for that Zenko guy. Him and his Marconi awards are the first thing that get thrown around when you challenge his intellect.

SCOTT WHITE

ANNOUNCER

WHAT YEAR DID YOU START?
Not entirely sure, but Mom & Dad must have had an interesting evening sometime in September, 1959 because I showed up the following June.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE IN RADIO?

I think it all started in 1964 when we lived near Denver and I was with my Dad in in the car and the Beatles were on 97 KIMN as we were driving by the studio. I wanted to stop at the radio station and Meet The Beatles [sic], and it was explained to me that I was hearing a record. My curiosity was piqued. I can remember absconding with my Dad’s cassette recorder and trying to put together radio shows by holding the condenser mic up to the speaker on the Hi-Fi player in the living room and driving everyone else out of the house. In Junior High I was forever calling and requesting and winning contests for free pizza so that I got banned from calling the two Top-40 radio stations in Great Falls while I was growing up, but ended up being friends with the 7-Midnight guy. So much so, that when they needed someone to fill in running the “Casey Kasem’s American Top 40” show in the Spring of ’77 I was asked to apply. Being in radio off and on ever since.

INTERESTING TIDBITS ABOUT YOUR LIFE BEFORE KFLN/The Rock?
After Great Falls I hopped all over as a lot of my compatriots did at the time. I’ve been on the air in Pocatello, Missoula, back to Great Falls, Then Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. When I was 28 I decided to try and grow up so I joined the Army for five years, but as soon as I discharged I was in Bozeman on the air again. Stayed there for nearly 20 years then off to Billings for a few years until I landed here in March 2016.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT WORKING HERE?
What I like best is the sense of teamwork instilled in the staff here and the fact there’s always a live body in the studio. Not many radio stations can say that anymore.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO TELL US?
I’m the oldest dork I know, besides Russ, but this business tends to attract that sort. Not to say the rest of the staff aren’t; in fact, between Vaughn and Josh we may have the market cornered.
