Large hog-farming operations may be on the way to North Dakota. The Department of Health is mulling over whether or not they should remove rules that pertain to manure production and animal feeding procedures. The changes would alter what hog-farms would be required to report, including manure production and the number of weaning piglets.
Citizens from northern North Dakota are concerned that industrial operations like those being proposed will only expand once lawmakers open the door. Most expressed concern for the small communities and family-run farms that will have to deal with living next to industrial-size hog farms.
