A truck driver was arrested last week by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department after ranchers caught him illegally dumping saltwater on their land. The driver, George Baker Jr., of SBT, dumped approximately 100 barrels of saltwater into a hay field owned by Shane and Sheralee Dolezal.
The Dolezals were checking on their ranch when they spotted the lone semi-tanker parked at the edge of their property. When Baker was confronted, he told the Dolezals that he was “tired of waiting in line” at the authorized disposal facility south of Halliday.
Baker has been charged with a Class C Felony for Violation of the Rules and Regulations of the North Dakota Industrial Commission. SBT is restoring the Dolezal’s land by removing the contaminated soil from the site and replacing it with new soil from the Dolezal’s land. Porterfield estimates that the incident by the driver will cost SBT more than $500,000. Baker Jr. is currently out on $1,500 cash bond, and he is expected back in court by the end of July.
