Shanna Medearis of Baker, MT was sentenced yesterday in Fallon County Court. She had been charged with two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, both felonies, two counts of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of endangering a child’s welfare, also a felony.
In making his judgement, Judge Nickolas Murnion noted Medearis’ strong support system in the community and her proactive approach to seeking and completing treatment programs. Medearis stated that over prescribing of opioids by doctors years ago was a major factor in her struggle with drugs and pointed to the previous year, in which she consistently tested negative for any drugs, as proof of her effort to rehabilitate.
For charges including Criminal Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Medearis was sentenced to 5 years in jail for each, with all but 10 days from each commitment suspended.
