A Plevna rancher was fined and sentenced after pleading guilty in August to killing a bald eagle. 66-year-old Dale Duwayne Buerkle was ordered to pay a 1,000 fine and another 1,000 in restitution. In his ruling, Judge Timothy Cavan dismissed two other counts under terms of a plea agreement. Cavan also took notice that Buerkle didn’t intentionally try to kill a bald eagle and also had no criminal history. Buerkle admitted to injecting a pesticide in a calf carcass to kill coyotes that were killing his calves. The case was heard in U.S. District Court in Billings.
