The Baker Air Service has been restoring a Super Cub so that they can debut the aircraft at the Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-in and Expo beginning this week in Florida. The plane is a sweepstakes Grand Prize that the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association hired Baker Air Service to restore.
The team, comprised of Baker Air Service owner Roger Meggers, his son Darin and Baker Service mechanic Jon Anderson have been working for months to get the Super Cub ready for the 1,500 nautical mile journey to the Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association (AOPA) campus near Tampa, FL.
After test flying the airplane and putting a few hours on the engine, officials from the AOPA will fly from Baker to Tampa with a watchful eye on the weather. They anticipate the possibility of snow in the northern plains and acknowledge the possibility for tornadoes in the Midwest as the storm season begins.
