Woody’s Trucking LLC of Baker and owner Donald Wood Jr. were found guilty on 13 of 14 federal charges Tuesday afternoon. Those charges include Conspiracy, Mail and Wire Fraud, Transportation of Hazardous Materials and Obstruction of Justice.
In February of 2012, the trucking company began shipping natural gas condensate, a flammable hazardous material from eastern North Dakota to an oil processing plant outside of Wibaux without updating its insurance paperwork. The company claimed they were shipping KCL water.
While one of their trucks was at Custom Carbon Processing Inc., an explosion occurred, injuring three employees and causing the truck to catch fire, where its contents burned for eight days. The plant has also been charged in a separate criminal case connected to the explosion. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 4. Before Tuesday’s decision by the jury, Wood faced a maximum penalty of 145 years in prison and fines totaling $3.5 million if he had been found guilty on all charges.
